Veliko Tarnovo is one of the most ancient settlements in the country. It was a Bulgarian capital during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (1187-1393). Remains of the beautiful palace and the old town can be seen nowadays on the three hills Tsarevetz, Trapezitsa and Sveta Gora.
Nowadays capital of the country Sofia had a lot of names during its existance: Thracian name Serdika (thr. town of Serdes), Byzantine name Triaditza, Slave name Sredetz. It is now the biggest Bulgarian city with a lot of landmarks to visit. Some of them are the National historical museum, the National art gallery, the cathedral Alexander Nevski, the National theatre and library.

The Thracian treasures and the new sensation

A lot of remarkable masterpieces of the Tracian art are found all over the eastern part of the counrty. The treasure from Panagjurishte and the village of Valchitran are the biggest golden treasure found in the country from this period. Richly decorated elegant vessels, garlands and masks are precious part of them.
The golden artefacts from Letnitsa and Rozovets treasures (golden and silver vessels and rythons) are also  unique.
A special place between the exhibitions of the ancient findings has the treasure from Varna Necropolis. This is the oldest gold in Europe and older than the gold found in Egypt and the Near East.

Archeological dicsoveries from the new millenium bring to the world more priceless examples of the Tracian art and architecture.
Perperikon  is a big komplex, consisting of megalith sanctuary, scared town and a fortress. The scientists say this is the famous sanctuary of Dionysus that belongs to the Thracian tribe Satri.
Near Perperikon another complex is situated. The bases of the stone town, the altars of the sanctuary and the tower of the fortress still can be seen nowadays.
Near Perperikon another holy Tracian place named Tatul is situated. Tatul is the Thracian sanctuary of Orpheus.
The Tracian temple of Alexandrovo is the most remarkable monument of the antique mural painting in Bulgaria after Kazanlak tomb. All of the temple walls are painted  with images of men, women, different animals,  ammunitions and weapons.
The same expressive portrets can be seen in Ostrusha tomb. A full set of silver decorations of horse ammunitions are found there.
The newest found treasures in Sliven, in Golqmata Kosmatka tomb (Big Kosmatka) and the tomb at the village of Starosel  prove once again the mister/mind of the Tracian tribes and show the high level of their civilization.
