Pliska je první hlavní mľsto Bulharska, z roku 861 do roku 893.
Ruiny starobylého města which ware surrounded by a moat and a bank, have citadel with defence walls, big palace and small palace, basilica. A lot of relics of the early Slav and Old Bulgarian culture have been found in Pliska.
King Simeon I moves the capital of the first Bulgarian Kingdom to Veliki Preslav, situated 3 km from the old capital Pliska. He turns the city to one of the most beautiful capitals in the South-Eastern Europe (the Golden century period).
Veliko Tarnovo is one of the most ancient settlements in the country. It was a Bulgarian capital during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (1187-1393). Remains of the beautiful palace and the old town can be seen nowadays on the three hills Tsarevetz, Trapezitsa and Sveta Gora.
Nowadays capital of the country Sofia had a lot of names during its existance: Thracian name Serdika (thr. town of Serdes), Byzantine name Triaditza, Slave name Sredetz. It is now the biggest Bulgarian city with a lot of landmarks to visit. Some of them are the National historical museum, the National art gallery, the cathedral Alexander Nevski, the National theatre and library.
